NOTE FROM NORM: She is who her words say she is
“We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban…I asked [Secretary of State Antony Blinken] where people are supposed to go for justice.” – Congresswoman Ilhan Omar
Congressional Democrats expelled Marjorie Taylor Greene from the committees she served on in Congress. Greene, who dispenses antisemitic vitriol and an intolerant view of most everything and anyone she doesn’t agree with or understand, was forced to apologize for her most recent outrage comparing the wearing of masks to victims of the Holocaust.
It apparently took a visit to the Holocaust Museum for Green to understand, for the moment anyhow, that her grotesque worldview might not be as accurate or smug as she believes it to be.
Congresswoman Omar, on the other hand, faces no such reckoning for her ethnic attacks against Jews. Or her antisemitic commentary against Israel and those who support the Jewish State, and, for that matter, her accusation that the United States and Israel belong in the same category as the terrorists of Hamas, the Taliban, and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.
Instead, time and time again, she is counseled by the Democratic House Leadership to “clarify” her remarks and is then applauded for her “wokeness” when she does so, never, of course, apologizing in the entirety for what is clearly the worldview she possesses not just towards Israel and Jews, but to the very nation in which she lives, the United States of America.
Her defenders, some of the very same members of Congress who, themselves, embrace a worldview in which Israel and Jews, and non-Jews, who defend and support our ally are villains, predictably came to her defense. The criticism leveled at Omar, they cried, was racist, misogynistic, Islamaphobic and un-American.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi continues to call Omar a “valued” member of her caucus and applauded her for her “clarification” that she didn’t really mean what she said about the United States being a terrorist state.
In fact, she made it clear that Omar will face no repercussions for her latest diatribe against the world’s most vital Democracy:
“What I’m saying is, end of subject,” the speaker said Sunday. “She clarified, we thanked her, end of subject.”
Well, not exactly, Speaker Pelosi.
It’s not the end of the subject, and I do not thank her.
In fact, there is no reason at all to allow Omar to continue to serve on any Committee in the United States House of Representatives.
As Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy made clear recently, “I will promise you this..If [Republicans] are fortunate enough to have the majority, Omar would not be serving on Foreign Affairs or anybody that has an ant-Semitic or anti-American view.”
When Iowa Congressman Steven King said, “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” he was removed – by Republicans – from his committee assignments.
When Ilhan Omar compares the United States to a terrorist state – makes blatantly anti-Semitic comments – she is applauded by Democrats for her “clarifications.”
Where is the media outrage? Where is the condemnation from Democratic leadership? Where is the movement from Democratic rank and file members of Congress demanding Omar be removed from her committees immediately?
The nation’s media wrings its hands and wonders why the American public holds it in such low esteem and no longer considers it to be a credible source of news and information. Can there be any doubt as to why?
Even in my home state of Minnesota, the State’s largest paper has been silent on calling for Democrats in Congress to remove Omar from her committees. They blather on how Omar needs to learn, be more tolerant, and further clarify what she really means when she says the things she does.
There’s no need to clarify. She says what she says because she believes the things she says.
We know what Steve King, Marjorie Taylor Green and Rashida Tlaib and others like them believe. They have made it clear time and time again with their comments and their votes. We don’t need to spend anymore time trying to get clarity from them.
Maya Angelou once said, “When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time.”
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar believes in exactly what she says. She is who her words say she is.
And, for that reason, she should be removed immediately from her committees by Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives.
