Holtz-Eakin Leads More Than 100 Experts in Amicus Brief Against PPACA

WASHINGTON – American Action Forum President Douglas Holtz-Eakin issued the following statement after filing an amicus brief in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in support of a lawsuit against the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. The brief was signed by 105 experts including two Nobel Prize winners in economics.

“The statistics and assumptions used to justify the individual mandate in the healthcare law are demonstrably false and its time to put an end to this reasoning,” said Holtz-Eakin. “The purpose of this brief is to provide the Court with a more complete and accurate understanding of the statistics relied upon by the government.

“Specifically, the government’s claim that the voluntarily uninsured, by staying out of the market, impose $43 billion in uncompensated costs has no basis in fact. Additionally, the government’s claim that the healthcare industry is unique dramatically overstates the distinctive characteristics of the industry, most of which are routinely found in varying degrees in many other markets.”
