AAN Launches $500,000 “Damage” Ad Campaign Against Pat Murphy

WASHINGTON – The American Action Network (@AAN) today released the ad “Damage” in Iowa’s 1st congressional district race, highlighting Pat Murphy’s tax and spend record that pads his own pockets while taking more from Iowans.

As an Iowa State Representative for 25 years, Pat Murphy has backed income tax increases, limits to homestead tax credits, and more sales taxes. But Pat Muphy is willing to spend every tax dollar and more, saddling Iowans with at least 20 years of debt while making them foot the bill for $120,000 flower pots. Despite his reckless record, Pat Murphy voted himself a pay raise.

The ad will run on broadcast and cable in the Cedar Rapids-Waterloo-Iowa City-Dubuque market as part of AAN’s $500,000 independent expenditure in the IA-01 race. “Damage” will also feature a 15-second version for online advertising.

“Pat Murphy is just another tax-and-spend politician who looks out for his own paycheck while taking more from Iowans,” said Emily Davis, spokeswoman for American Action Network. “He’s done enough damage in Iowa to show what a disaster he’d be in Washington.”

:30 Script:

ANNCR: Career politician Pat Murphy’s record is clear.

Murphy pushed to raise income taxes, raise sales taxes and raise property taxes.

And what's Murphy done with our money?

He’s run up debt and backed wasteful spending. Even a hundred grand for decorative flower pots.

And for himself? A nice pay raise.

We can’t afford Pat Murphy. Imagine the damage he’d do in Washington.
