PRESS RELEASE: HOLTZ-EAKIN: TIME FOR PRESIDENT OBAMA, SENATE TO STEP UP ON DEBT CEILING DEAL

WASHINGTON- American Action Forum President Douglas Holtz-Eakin issued the following statement in reaction to the House of Representatives passing the Budget Control Act of 2011:

“Washington has delivered three options: a plan, a gimmick, and a vacuum,” Holtz-Eakin. “As the nation faces the test of rescuing its fiscal future, Sen. Harry Reid peddles gimmicks, House Democrats seem determined to downgrade, and the Commander-in-Chief sits on the sidelines giving speeches and holding press conferences. The real leader as our nation faces a looming default has been House Speaker John Boehner. The House has passed two increases in the debt ceiling, including the Budget Control Act of 2011 that takes on annual spending, provides a path to entitlement reform, runs off financial market disruption and takes a crucial step toward economic stability and growth.  Opposition from the President and Senate only pushes us closer to a default and the unthinkable consequences to our fragile economy.”
